Oscars 2023: RRR's Naatu Naatu, nominated in Best Original Song category, to be performed live!


SS Rajamouli's RRR is winning global acclaim. Its popular song, titled Naatu Naatu, has especially brought additional recognition by sweeping away trophies at the prestigious Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards and Los Angeles Film Critics Association. Now, all eyes are on the 95th Academy Awards. The song has been nominated in the Best Original Song category. Director Rajamouli has been aggressively promoting his brainchild in the US and representing India rightfully. 

As the countdown for Oscars 2023 kickstarted, it has been confirmed that Naatu Naatu will be performed live at the awards ceremony. The singers of the song, Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava, will be flying to Los Angeles for the performance at the Dolby Theatre. MM Keeravani has composed the song. It's yet to be clarified whether Jr. NTR and Ram Charan would shake a leg on the stage.

The Academy made the announcement yesterday on Twitter. The post read, "Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava. “Naatu Naatu." LIVE at the 95th Oscars (sic)."

Naatu Naatu's first big win was at the Golden Globes 2023 in January. A few weeks later, it won the Best Song award at the 28th edition of the Critics Choice Awards, while RRR was named Best Foreign Language Film. At the Oscars this year, Naatu Naatu will be competing in the Best Original Song category against Lift Me Up from Black Panther: Wakanda ForeverHold My Hand from Top Gun MaverickThis is a Life from Everything Everywhere All At Once and Applause from Tell.

Picturised on Jr. NTR and Ram Charan at the Mariinsky Palace (Ukraine Presidential Palace) in Kyiv a couple of months before the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, the song was released in Hindi as Naacho Naacho, in Tamil as Naattu Koothu, in Kannada as Halli Naatu and in Malayalam as Karinthol.
