PeepingMoon Exclusive- Reunion after two decades: Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan team up for an investigative drama
Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan have a strong relationship and have wanted to work together for a long time. After two decades since Nikkhil Advani's debut film, Kal Ho Naa Ho, the two Khans are finally collaborating again, but not as co-stars this time. Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that SRK has signed on Saif Ali Khan to headline his next production venture.
The film is said to be an investigative drama and will star Saif Ali Khan in the role of a cop. It is a suspenseful thriller about a gruesome murder case and has tentatively been titled Kartavya. Pulkit, known for Bose: Dead or Alive, has been brought on board to direct this film, which also stars Sanjay Mishra and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan, known for her cop role in the Netflix crime drama Soni. The filmmaker has already started pre-production and will begin shooting in the first week of February.

Saif Ali Khan has recently been experimenting with his career choices and taking on projects that are different and challenging. Kartavya is said to be a difficult project as it takes him on a dark, emotional journey while investigating a crime. It will also be the third time that Saif has played a cop on screen in the past five years. The Go Goa Gone actor recently played a righteous police officer in Hrithik Roshan's Vikram Vedha, and before that, he played a troubled cop in Netflix's Sacred Games.
The development of this new Saif Ali Khan film comes after several of his previous projects fell through. He was previously set to star with Kajol in Hindi Medium director Saket Chaudhary's quirky comedy Mummy Papa Raazi, but he dropped out due to script issues. Saif was also committed to Rahul Dholakia's Agni, but he left that project as well, and the film is now being made with Pratik Gandhi and Divyenndu Sharma as the leads. Saif is also reportedly reviving his production company, Black Knight Films, with a survival drama directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Vinod Kapri. He will work on this jungle-based film after completing the Shah Rukh Khan production.
Red Chillies Entertainment has a strong lineup of projects planned for 2023. They are expected to start the year with the release of Bhakshak, starring Bhumi Pednekar. The film, directed by Pulkit, is based on the 2018 Muzaffarpur shelter home case. Bhakshak will be followed by two highly anticipated SRK releases: Atlee's Jawan on June 2 and Rajkumar Hirani's Dunki on Christmas weekend. Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan's debut web series is also expected to begin production in the middle of the year.
