'Mentalhood' launch: Ekta Kapoor reveals Dino Morea's character in web series is inspired by her brother Tusshar; shares the script was 'conceived' during her surrogacy months


Ekta Kapoor, with the diverse content on her digital entertainment platform ALT Balaji, has been setting the benchmark high for others to follow. Be it romantic or thriller, suspense or family drama, the platform and the producer have been keeping us busy with some fantastic web shows. Now, as the journey continues, Ekta is back with yet another interesting web show with Karisma Kapoor in the lead. Titled Mentalhood, it will revolve around the tale of mothers and the challenges they face, will stream on ALT Balaji and ZEE5 simultaneously from March 11, 2020.

Ekta, after generating a positive stir for the series with posters and teasers, unveiled the highly anticipated trailer on Monday at a launch event. During the same, she spoke about what went behind conceptualising Mentalhood. She said that when she was in the process of surrogacy, the scripting was underway too. She went on to call Mentalhood her baby after her son Ravie Kapoor. Ekta further revealed that the first time when she heard the script, she called Karisma for the same.

The producer heaped praises on Karisma and said she worked hard to make a mark for herself. Recalling an incident from the past, Ekta said that Karisma would dance for 6 hours straight without a break. She told that the actress made her acting debut with a South Indian film which was looked down upon. Stating that her prediction of Karisma becoming a superstar was proven right, Ekta said she is proud of her.

Talking about Dino Morea's character, Ekta revealed that it is based on her brother Tusshar Kapoor who is a single parent to Laksshya Kapoor. Dino, while sharing his experience, said he loved the idea and applauded real-life single parents. 

Mentalhood, apart from Karisma and Dino, stars Sanjay Suri, Tillotama Shome, Shilpa Shukla, Shruti Seth and Sandhya Mridul.
